One of the biggest challenges of an online, unlocalized church is finding intentional ways to serve together. It would be challenging for all of Checkpoint to meet up at a Soup Kitchen and serve food - where would we even meet? Would we have to drive six hours just to offer up ourselves? Once or twice a year is fine, but what if we are seeking out ways to do more?
Normally, the way that we answer this conundrum is fairly obvious - digital problems require digital solutions. We offer up ways for our servant-hearted folks to serve as facilitators in our Nerdy Bible Studies or to serve as Guardians - or moderators - for our various platforms. This works well and does exactly what it needs to do.
But still there is a desire to feel that kind of camaraderie of doing something as a community. This is normally found in our Check-a-thons and the amount that we raise for charity together four times a year. But today I am announcing another way that we can serve together in community - Mileage Mania.
For the month of June, I invite you to join us as we tally up miles together as a community to see how far we might be able to walk, jog, or run when our small steps are combined into one large pile. Will we walk to Mordor? Will we walk the Death Star halls? Will we walk Snake Road? Hey - I can dream, can't I?
You can sign up to join the race here and get yourself a custom penant number. We will plan to have check-ins every Monday on our stream and will throw a big celebration at the end of June to see how far we've walked as a community. Logging your miles is easy through our link on Discord - but we'll send a reminder email to you each week just in case. If you have any other questions, shoot a question in our Mileage Mania chat in Discord or email me. I can't wait to see what we're able to accomplish when we band together. This is a way we can serve our community and our bodies at the same time. Gotta go fast!
