Within weeks of our launch on Twitch, we hit a pretty huge numerical milestone and we're eligible to become a Twitch Affiliate. What does this mean? Since we've been given this status, we are officially able to start receiving funding from Twitch - that's certainly a bonus.
More importantly to our ministry, however, this means that we are that much more likely to be taken seriously by the Twitch community. There are a few hurdles still remaining between ourselves and the 'big leagues' of the Twitch world, but we are officially beyond the casual status. This is an exciting into a world mostly unexplored by churches.
In the online world, there is a duplicity that is all at once humbling as it is hypocritical. The luxury of the digital world is that it allows for a thick layer of anonymity - many of our attendants at Checkpoint are seemingly just usernames. However, these anonymous masses are also incredibly good at sensing any lack of sincerity. Like the bloodhound, the lurker can sniff out a fake.
Our desire at Checkpoint is to genuinely be a part of the nerds, geek, and gamer communities. Being a Twitch Affiliate is the first badge of honor that gets us our first thumbs up as real contributors to this culture.
God loves you. We love you. You matter.
Be boldly blessed.
