Really, Nathan? Cartoons?

This Sunday we are going to have one of our very first community events outside of Twitch. Starting at 8pm, we are inviting everyone to fire up their computers (or phones) and hop onto Netflix to watch the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse. Using an app called Netflix Party, everyone watching will be put into a group chat and sync all the movies together so we are watching the movie in real-time together. It's a truly novel invention!

Some may be asking, though... really, Nathan, Spider-Man? A *dramatic gasp* KIDS movie? Look, I get it. I love movies. But we've had enough church watch-alongs of Fireproof and Pay It Forward. Others are already doing that kind of stuff.

At Checkpoint Church, we are striving to reach nerds, geeks, and gamers - and, here's the hard truth - we nerds, geeks, and gamers are tickled pink about Spider-verse dropping on Netflix. We're also eating up Avatar: The Last Airbender - which is, I repeat, a cartoon.

Here's the reality: as a nerd church, we are going to do things differently on purpose. We're going to watch anime and cartoons, read manga and comic books, and play video games. This requires a lot of trust on your part. I'm not picking these things without serious thought. I believe that everyone should watch this movie. I believe that God will work through this creation. There's only one thing out of my prayer and control: will you trust me or stay the same you were yesterday? I hope to 'see' you Sunday.

God loves you. We love you. You matter.

Be boldly blessed.
