Nerds of a Feather Study Together

I might be biased, but I love our weekly nerdy sermons. I love getting to craft them as a pastor, sure. But as a nerd, I love that they even get to exist. It brings me joy to see the words Darkhold, Book of Vishanti, and Holy Bible in the same script. These are doing a necessary deed. Even if just one person likes Dr. Strange but doesn't know Jesus watched this video - it's all worth it.

We've come a long way from Advent of the Nerd. We've been creating these nerdy sermons for a year and a half now and are into our third iteration of the medium. Hiring our excellent editor Niki was a drastic improvement in the quality of our videos. But it might be time for another kick to the system when it comes to our nerdy sermons.

I'm often asked this: why don't we have a worship service? When will we gather for an hour on Sundays like in a typical church? The easy answer is that we aren't normal, but the more honest answer is that the Internet doesn't work that way. Education on the Internet has been dubbed 'Edutainment' and requires quick and snappy editing. That's why our 'worship' videos are currently 15 minutes long and just the well-scripted and edited sermons.

But maybe that isn't enough anymore.

Now hold on to your britches - we aren't launching a worship service today. But we are starting something just as exciting. We're creating Nerdy Bible Study groups and launching them at the end of June. These are facilitated by myself and some LVL2 volunteers. Each group will last for six weeks and focus on a central theme: anime, video games, or Marvel for our first run. We're making a big step from asynchronous to synchronous, and we couldn't be more excited about it.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for your group today!
